What Is Qarin Magic (Sihr al-Qarin)?

April 13, 2026 · 3 min read · ~338 words

Some forms of magic are believed to target a person’s qarin rather than the person directly. This article explains why this type of magic is considered complex and what signs may be associated with it.

Some practitioners of magic do not direct magic at the person directly; instead, they target the person’s qarin, the companion jinn. This is considered one of the most frightening and complicated forms of magic.

Why is it considered difficult?

  1. It is usually believed to be performed by a magician who is experienced in deeper levels and techniques of magic.
  2. It is a type of paired attack in which both the person and the person’s qarin are targeted.
  3. The qarin does not come to its owner’s aid; rather, it may remain part of the influence.
  4. In severe cases, the affected person may begin saying abnormal things through their own mouth.
  5. It can become deeply connected with psychological depression, fear, waswasah, and satanic influence.
  6. In some cases, its effects may seem to spread within the family.
  7. The affected person may suffer from fear, anxiety, depression, and mental distress.
  8. Discussions about this condition often also mention a strong khadim or servant jinn.
  9. At a severe stage, treatment may become long-term.

The principle for beginning treatment

The first step is to try to weaken the effect of the magic connected to the qarin. After that, treatment moves toward removing the influence that remains on the human body. If a khadim or external influence connected to the qarin remains, it may prolong the treatment.

Possible signs

  1. No significant improvement despite following ruqyah treatment
  2. Waswasah and mental distress
  3. Progress repeatedly stopping during treatment or returning backward
  4. Abusive speech, anger, and reluctance toward worship
  5. Severe pain on the left side, especially in the left hand
  6. Long-lasting headache
  7. Heat moving through the body
  8. Blasphemous or filthy thoughts and inner self-talk
  9. Repeated pulsing sensations in different parts of the body
  10. Weak response to ruqyah
  11. Uncontrolled crying
  12. Deep sadness
  13. Tightness of the chest and discomfort
  14. Lack of concentration and feelings similar to visual disturbance
Note: These matters are part of religious and experience-based discussion. If physical or mental symptoms are present, it is better to seek the advice of both a doctor and a qualified scholar or raqi.
