What Is the Servant Jinn of Magic or a “Marbut” (Bound) Jinn?

April 13, 2026 · 2 min read · ~244 words

Sometimes the servant shaytan or jinn of magic is described as being bound in a way that prevents it from easily leaving the affected person. This article explains that concept.

In ruqyah-related discussions, a “marbut” jinn refers to a shaytan or servant jinn that is believed to have been tied to the affected person through sihr or magic. As a result, it cannot easily leave the patient’s body—neither during ruqyah nor afterward—until Allah cancels that magic.

What needs to be understood in this condition?

  1. The idea that such a jinn can be removed merely through beating, abuse, torture, or burning is not correct.
  2. The main focus should be on nullifying the magic.
  3. The affected person may feel lighter after every ruqyah session, even if the jinn does not leave immediately.
  4. In many cases, once the magic becomes weak, the servant jinn also leaves.

If the magic was done through eating or drinking

Some raqis believe that, in this case, during ruqyah the servant of magic may be commanded to bring out the magical substance from inside the body. However, this is not possible in every case.

Why might the magical substance not come out?

  • The magic has become very old
  • There is a guard over the magic
  • The influence of the magician or a jinn-magician is active
  • The magic has spread to different parts of the body
  • The patient’s stomach is empty, so vomiting does not occur

Caution

This entire topic is part of experience-based explanation among ruqyah practitioners. Physically harming a patient, treating them inhumanely, or frightening them is never acceptable. Treatment must be carried out with wisdom, patience, and within Islamic limits.
